finding the right assisted living home for your parents

Does Your Parent Need Supervision But Isn't Ready For A Nursing Home? Independent Senior Living Options Are Best

If your parent is starting to show signs that they are struggling to live on their own, and you worry about what could happen when no one is checking on them, it may be time to find them an independent living center. An independent living center is different than a traditional nursing home.

Your parent's safety has to be the main concern, and it's dangerous for them to be caring on their own if they have a disability, mental health concern, or if they are aging and need assistance with daily tasks. Here are a few reasons why an independent living option at a senior housing facility is ideal.

They Don't Feel Suffocated

Your parent won't have someone forcing them to eat and bathe at a certain time or making them go to bed when they aren't ready. Instead, they live in their own apartment and only get assistance or help when they need it. This way they don't injure themselves trying to do something on their own, and they can make a call for help and someone is right there when necessary.

No Roommates

If your parent has been living on their own for years and they don't like the idea of losing their privacy to be in a room with someone else, they may not want to go to a senior care center. If they get an independent living apartment, condo, villa or room, they will be on their own without the troubles of a roommate.

Meal Delivery and Amenities

Would you like to have your parent's meals delivered to them? Do they have to go to therapy a few times a week? If they are at an independent living facility you can have a food service drop off meals, and you can have them walk over to the main senior care area to get therapy when needed. Your parent won't have to worry about snow removal or lawn maintenance, and they can have their area cleaned by the staff if they need the service.

The senior care center will have medical staff on hand to help if there is an emergency with your parent, or if they need assistance around the clock. You don't have to take away your parent's independence when you put them in an independent living center, and instead you can both feel safe about their living situation and the care they can get.
